Packing List

(Click each for more details)

Light Breathable Clothes

Shorts, shirts, swimwear, socks

Be ready for hot, humid, sunny, and rainy days!

Temple Attire

Long pants & shoulder cover (shirt or scarf)

Out of respect (and rules) we wear light clothing that covers our knees and shoulders. For the Grand Palace, we wear long pants to cover our ankles as well. They sell "Happy Elephant Pants" for a few dollars outside the gates if needed (good souvenir).

Rain Gear

Light rain jacket / poncho

It rains in the rainforest! Always be prepared as it typically rains in short, hard bursts, and then clears up. You never know!

Shoes & Footwear

1 Pair Flip Flops. 1 Pair Hiking/Water shoes

1 Pair Flip Flops or Slip on shoes for everyday walking, and temples (a lot of taking on/off). 1 Pair of Water/Hiking shoes you will get muddy (Jungle hikes and playing with Elephants!)

Sun Protection

Sunglasses, Hat, SPF

Protect yourself with a light hat, sunglasses, and any SPF clothing you have. We will provide sunscreen, but of course if you have your own preferred sunblock, be sure to bring it!

Medication

Any necessary medications you need

Don't forget your medication! There are pharmacies in all major cities and towns for over the counter medication and some prescription medication.

Other suggestions
  • Camera / GoPro / Drone (allowed in many of the locations we visit)
  • Travel Power Adapter / Voltage Converter (Thailand fits both USA and UK plugs at 220v). Most electronic devices have power adapters that convert themselves and will not need a separate adapter, however, some hair dryers and curling irons, for example, do not. Always check the voltage of your devices before plugging them in.
  • Credit and Debit Card. Credit Cards are accepted at many hotels, restaurants, and convenience stores throughout Thailand, but cash reigns king in Thailand for smaller street vendors, night market stalls, and smaller institutions. ATM's are plentiful, and we recommend using debit cards that waive withdrawal fees such as our favorite bank, Schwab.
  • Insect repellant (We will have some on hand as well).

Day 9

That's a BIG BUDDHA

Highlights

7:00 AM | Your Guide will greet you in the hotel lobby.

Experience the charm of Bangkok, often dubbed the "Venice of the East," as you embark on a colorful longtail boat journey along the Chao Phraya River. Admire the captivating blend of modern skyscrapers, traditional wooden houses, and colonial relics that grace the city's skyline. After passing the iconic Wat Arun, venture into the enchanting Thonburi khlongs (canals), a labyrinth of waterways brimming with character.

Weave through the khlongs, witnessing the juxtaposition of teak houses and modern mansions that tell the story of Bangkok's evolving waterside communities. Pause at Wat Khun Chan, a hidden gem rarely visited by tourists, then cross a small footbridge to wander through charming old alleys. Savor a refreshing drink as you soak in the tranquil ambiance and observe the rhythm of local life.

Continue your exploration at Wat Paknam, another off-the-beaten-path temple, where you'll be captivated by its ginormous Buddha statue (the largest in Thailand!). Return to the boat and cruise along Khlong Bang Khuntien until you reach the secluded Poomjai Garden, a hidden oasis nestled on the canal's edge. Owned by a local family, this organic permaculture garden boasts a rich history spanning over a century, preserving rare plants and trees.

Take a leisurely stroll through the verdant gardens, relax by the canal with a signature local drink, and then prepare for a hands-on culinary adventure with a cooking class using fresh ingredients sourced from the nearby community.
